Three Ways to Freshen Up Your Home

Updated: Jun 19

Home feeling stale? Not ready for a big overhaul but bored with your surroundings? Me too! So I chatted with Lindsay Tassin the founder and owner of Chameleon Staging to get some quick and easy tips on how to freshen up my space.

Not interested in watching the video right now? No problem. You'll miss out on some bonus content and ideas, but I'll share three effective refreshers right here.

  1. 1. Get organized - you don't have to Marie Kondo your entire home to feel a bit more in charge. Instead you can start by tidying up little areas that get messy every day.

For example grab an old serving platter, bowl, or tray (crawfish anyone?), and place it on your coffee table for remotes and magazines.

Or jazz up old pots or boxes to give your 'junk table' a place for mail, keys, etc. It's easy to stash when you don't want to see them, or don't want anyone else to see your cluttered ways. Think of it as a shower caddy in college, but for your everyday stuffs.

2. Put in some elbow grease - You know that feeling when your home has been professionally cleaned? You can't put your finger on it, but they did something extra? Something special? What is this secret magic?

According to Lindsay, it's likely the baseboards. Cleaning up trim like doorways, chair rails, sills, and baseboards gives everything an etra oompf!

"Most trim is white... so a quick scrub and your whole room will brighten up." Lindsay swears by doing this at least once a month especially if you have pets. I'm not quite that organized, but perhaps y'all are. Go to town. Better yet, get the kids involved!

3. Switch your throws - Pillows and throw blankets add a splash of color ot any room and color can be the quickest way to liven up a place. You could take this as an excuse to hit up your favorite online shop.

You could move those throws on the couch to the guest room and vice versa. Pull some decorative pillows from the master into that arm chair. You'll be surprised how much swapping things out makes everywhere feel fresh. Once you're done with pillows and throws, mix up your house plants. Go wild! "It's all about making your house someplace you want to be," shares Lindsay, "and it's easier than you think."

Bottom line? Being stuck indoors is only temporary. And if you're through entirely, and it's time to move on, you know a great realtor who can help you do just that.
