As the city reopens, it begs the question, how can we enjoy the good and avoid the bad? More specifically, how can we both enjoy the city and protect our family and our homes?
I collected your questions and sat down with my friend Darien who just so happens to be a sanitization expert.
Darien Mason is a local who has been in the cleaning business in New Orleans since 1998. Darien's company Bayou Multi Janitorial Service not only cleans both residential and commercial spaces, but they also sterilize them. I use his company before move-ins for my clients and to keep my Airbnb guests and my family safe. With a 4.8 star rating on Home Advisor, I feel confident saying other people love him too.
His top tips for staying safe include:
Clean and sterilize your home at least once a month
Wash your hands often
Look for restaurants, and other places that social distance and have high standards when it comes to keeping things clean
Remove shoes when coming home
Wash clothing on high temps when possible
So when do you call in the pros? It's not a bad idea to do so today. Even if you've had time on your hands, if you're not a professional cleaner, there is no shame in getting help with your clean game. Especially during a pandemic! Cleaning experts cover everything from floorboards to air vents, fans, blinds, etc. And, they do so with COVID killing sprays.
But what about people who are anxious they let their place get sloppy during stay at home? "We've seen it all, and we don't judge, " assures Darien.

"If we didn't love it, we wouldn't do it, " he reminds me. And I get it. I feel the same way about real estate.
