Rainy days can put a damper on your plans, but don't let the weather keep you down! There's still plenty to do in New Orleans, and we've got even more recommendations to keep you busy and entertained.
Team Cool Murphy is comprised of adventurers and home bodies. But, none of us melts when it rains. Here are a few of our favorite activities when New Orleans gets a little bit soggy.
Culture Queen, Brittany
If you're looking to learn something new or dive into the city's history, Brittany's recommendations are perfect for you. The Ogden Museum of Southern Art is a fantastic spot to explore the art of the American South, and The McKenna Museum of African American Art offers an insight into the experiences of African Americans in New Orleans. And, if you're a history buff, The National WWII Museum is a must-visit. The museum offers a compelling and immersive experience of World War II, with interactive exhibits, artifacts, and oral histories.
Playful Darcie
Once you've had your fill of art and history, why not head to Darcie's favorite, the Prytania Theatre, for a classic movie experience? This historic theatre has been operating since 1914 and is one of the oldest continuously operating movie theatres in the United States. Then find fun for the whole family at New Orleans Boulder Lounge for indoor rock climbing.
Mid-City Jess
A Mid-City resident, Jess loves staying local as her neighborhood is full of entertainment options. If you're a film lover, check out The Broad Theatre, which screens an eclectic mix of independent and classic films.
The New Orleans Museum of Art has a diverse collection of over 40,000 objects from around the world, including works by Georgia O'Keeffe and Pablo Picasso.
If you're feeling peckish, head to Katie's for some comfort food or grab a drink undercover at Bayou Beer Garden. You'll find Jess playing pool with friends at Finn McCools.
Homebody Sara
Sara - a self-titled homebody- recommends staying in and enjoying a cozy and relaxing day. She uses rainy days to focus on her work and feels comforted by the idea that she's not missing too much outside the front door.
She also loves to relax during a good thunder storm. She says to grab your favorite book or a new release, and spend the day lost in its pages. Alternatively, catch up on your favorite shows with Netflix and make some popcorn for the ultimate comfort experience. Finally, if you have furry friends at home, why not spend quality time with them and cuddle up for snuggles?
Adventurous Elisa
Perhaps it's because she was born in England or listened to too much Garbage in the 90's but, as it turns out, Elisa is pretty happy when it rains. For those who love the rain like Elisa, there are plenty of outdoor options that can still be enjoyed.
So grab your rain boots and head outside to splash in puddles with your pets. Or, grab a coffee and watch the rain from a gallery or a porch.
If you're feeling adventurous, explore some open houses and see what's on the market in your favorite neighborhoods. And for a bit of excitement, gather some friends and tell ghost stories in a cozy spot over drinks.
The Whole Team Agrees
Finally, the whole team agrees that there's nothing quite like experiencing the French Quarter in the rain. Take a stroll through the streets and admire the architecture and the energy of the city. Grab coffee or bubbly and duck in and out of Royal Street's galleries. Settle in for a bite of something delicious. And then dance with strangers in the rain.
A rainy day in New Orleans doesn't have to be a dreary experience. With plenty of indoor and outdoor options to choose from, there's always something to keep you entertained and make the most of your time in our favorite city.
