A Few of Our Favorite Festivals

Updated: Jun 19

Y'all festin' this weekend? As Rafiki from The Lion King Would say, "It is time!"

It is time for New Orleans' musicians, eateries, and drinkeries to shine. Time to put on our dancin' shoes, put our best eats on a paper platter, and throw it all down with a cold drink.

So where does one begin? Lucky for you, Team Cool Murphy loves a good festival and is happy to share our must-do favorite festivals list.

Elisa's Favorite Festivals

"My must-do festival? I'm a sucker for The Creole Tomato Festival. It's close to home, and the weather is usually excellent. The number of bloody mary vendors also makes it appealing.

But I really look forward to Dirty Linen Night. It's an excuse to walk Royal Street on a balmy night and cave on buying great art from local artists. I blame my friends and the bubbles later, but truthfully I love bringing home something beautiful.

And I also adore NOLA On Tap. Not only is it a fun day featuring local brews and krewes but proceeds go to help rehome adoptable dogs."

Jess's Favorite Fests

"Super Sunday is definitely my favorite because I love the Mardi Gras Indians, and I love the music too. There's nothing like it on earth.

Bayou Boogaloo is so much fun. I love that it is in my neighborhood. It's incredible looking out and seeing how creative people get in building their 'boats.'

Some are crazy creative and float, others not so much. But, sink or swim, both are entertaining.

Oh also! Both Gumbo and Greek Fest are favorites and worth every calorie!"

Darcie's Favorite Fests

"NOLA Caribbean Festival is something I look forward to every year. There's so much culture.

The variety of music and traditional dances from across the islands brings people together.

People from all different Caribbean backgrounds from across all of New Orleans get together and enjoy being one big community.

It's family-friendly. My family loves trying all the different dishes we don't usually get to eat day to day."

Sara's Favorite Fests

"I need to represent the West Bank here. Gretna fest is pretty solid, the weather is usually beautiful, and it's right on the river.

I also enjoy Tet Fest, which celebrates our Vietnamese neighbors.

The St Bernard Bird Festival takes place a the Los Islenos Museum, and the migrating birds are fabulous.

My other must not miss. San Fermin in Nueva Orleans, the running of the bulls is hilarious! You have to see it to believe it. It's worth waking up early for, for sure."

Brittany's Favorite Fests

"You all know I love to dance, but it may surprise you that I actually love Zydeco music.

Naturally, I love Zydecco Fest. There's dancing and live music, and the food is delicious. Of course, there are dance lessons for those new to Zydecco too.

The theatre techie in me loves Tennessee Williams & New Orleans literary Festival.

And the Crawfish Festival is also one you do not want to miss!"

It took a lot of work for the team to limit our choices to two or three festivals each. We went opted to highlight some of the lesser-attended festivals.

Jazz Fest and French Quarter Festival absolutely make our A list.
